Today is day 30 in the series 31 days to Loving Sensory Parenting. You can read all the posts here.
Today we are going to be talking about taking a day off as a family. I don’t know about your schedule, but our life is pretty demanding.
Vacations are next to impossible in our life right now. Unless, they include therapy!
As a family, we need time to breathe, we need what a vacation brings to life without taking a vacation.
So what do I mean by taking a day off for your family? Think about when you take a day off for a vacation. It means you get out of your regular schedule, it means doing something different. It means delaying the things you need to do and doing a couple of things you want to do or that you enjoy. It’s a day to not think of all the things I have to do and let my mind relax.
As a talked about in a recent newsletter we’ve been making more time for fun on the weekends. It’s way to let go of the stress and relax (or try to relax).
You can make this happen by going out of town with your family if that is doable. Head to a nearby town, visit the zoo or do some other activity you don’t usually get to do.
You can also make this happen by staying home. In our family we love anything special. Miss Sensory especially, loves anything we deem as special! Whether that is having a special time to play with mom and dad or going to the pool.
It is simply just doing something out of the ordinary schedule, that doesn’t involve your daily stress and ignoring the things you feel like you have to do. That laundry will be there when your day “off” is done. Take time to enjoy each other.
